There have been many different stories that Roald Dahl has written today. From originals like the BFG, Matilda, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Witches has been one of my all-time favorites by Roald Dahl.
The Witches is about a boy who had been recently orphaned and is sent to his grandmothers. When he arrived at his grandmothers he found much comfort in her and she further explained that she would adopt him. One day when they are both sharing stories with one another the grandmother brings up the subject witches. She further construes that witches are very evil and despise children. Any child who comes across the witches that bothers them or disturbs their “peace” will be turned into something and eaten. The witches are also very tricky for they dress up like any normal women. If it were not for the fact that they wear wigs and other accessories they would be hideous. Of course he at first thinks her stories are superstition. That is, until he comes face to face with one.
I loved how I was so in tune with the emotions each character felt. Dahl captured my imagination and made me conceptualize every detail the storyline and setting included. Every rise and fall in the climax were interesting and didn’t bore me one bit. There have been films and animations made in honor of the The Witches book which were excellent. Check the book out and enjoy!
